Travelling to Bangkok from France was quite an experience.
Imagine 12 hours in a plane, class eco of course (not really a millionaire yet), with a tall guy behind you who kick your seat every 5 minutes, the TV which is not working propely as well as the earphone, the meal you ordered is not available (annoying when you don't eat gluten and lactose), a strong air conditionner and no sleep because it is unconfortable! Ok, maybe it is a bit exaggerate. Actually, flighing with British Airways is not so bad, I guess it is not the worst airline and the most importante is that everythhing went well, I arrived on time and had no problem with my suitcase.
For those who want to travel with British airways, this is the little package you receive for you fligh to Bangkok (without the iPad of course!).
9.30am, the plane lands on time at Suvarnabhumi airport of Bangkok. When you get out of the plane you are hit by this heavy humid hot air but also by the beauty of this airport. Thai culture is well represented as soon as get off the place. The walls are all paint (by Thai painter) or have real flowers growing, everything is new and design, just splendid to admire.
After the immigration passed and my suitcase retrieved, I walk all the way to an official taxi airoport. That was quite an experience, my first talk with Thai people, trying to understand where I have to go. Fortunatly I had everything written down so I just show my paper and I was sitting in the backseat of a Bangkok taxi.
Good to know is that taxi driver, and thai driver in general, drive like crazy. They actually drive in the middle of the road, motocycle drive so close to the car, they all drive very fast, they usually don't respect the red light... so you can imagine as an europeen girl, I was a bit scared at the back seat of the car!
11am, I discover my hotel and the area. First impression, the hotel is not to bad, not like a very luxurious hotel but crapy as well. The aera is not that nice, far from the photos I saw of Bangkok city, but this is the first place of Bangkok I'm seeing so far, so I guess I just need to get use to it!
In the hotel everyone is really nice, smilling, understanding and helping. My room is really nice, very spacious for the price I pay and I have a nice view of all Bangkok!
After having a quick shower, I head to my university to registrer and maybe get to know some people.
After 10 min walking I find the Assumption University. From outside you can't really see anything but inside it's really beautiful, you have nice building, a lake, a temple, and some nice tree to seat by the lake.
In the International office, I met my first friends. Everyone is nice as I expected, kind and helpfull. One of the student had to visit some appartment, so we decide to all go with him. That was perfect for me, because here I was, finding my flat at the same day I arrive in Bangkok.
The studio is just two street after the uni, in a quite new residence which has it own swimming pool and sport machine. The studio is really big, and nice furnished for a resonnable price.
Last things of the day, I had my first Thai meal, not a really good experience but I think the place wasn't a proper thai restaurant!
That was a busy day for a first day, but now I have friends, my studio, my thai phone number, my schedule and plenty of time for new adventure in Bangkok!
